Ask five agencies what a website costs and you will get five answers between ₹5,000 and ₹5,00,000, all for “a website”. The range is not dishonesty — it is that the word covers wildly different products.

What actually drives the price
Six variables. Every quote you receive is some combination of these.
Custom build versus template
A licensed theme populated with your content is a different product from a design built for your business. This is the single biggest cost driver and the one most quotes leave ambiguous.
Page count — but only up to a point
Pages 1 to 10 add real cost. Pages 11 to 50 usually reuse existing templates and cost far less each. An agency charging a flat per-page rate beyond the first ten is charging for work it is not doing.
Integrations
Payment gateways, CRM, ERP, shipping, third-party APIs. Each is real engineering. "Razorpay integration" is a day; "sync inventory with our existing ERP" can be three weeks.
Custom functionality
Anything users log into, anything that calculates, anything that changes state. This is where website pricing stops applying and web application pricing begins.
Content readiness
If your copy and images are ready, the build moves. If the agency is writing content and sourcing images, add time and cost — and check whether the quote includes it, because it often does not.
Performance and SEO standards
A site that scores 90+ on Lighthouse with proper structured data takes longer than one that scores 45. Most quotes do not mention this, which means most quotes are for the 45.
What each price band actually buys
Understanding the Indian web development landscape requires mapping the whole market, not just our own rate card. Here is what every budget bracket genuinely delivers.
A licensed theme with your text and logo, usually WordPress with a page builder, on shared hosting. Live in a week. You do not own the theme or the builder, performance is typically 30–50 on Lighthouse, and the first custom requirement means a rebuild.
